Minutes of the Pooler Lions Club Meet and Greet held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024

at Lovezzolla’s Family Restaurant, Pooler, Georgia

  • Call to Order:

The meeting was called to order at 6.31pm.

President Brandie said the prayer, led the Pledge and welcomed members and guests.

  • Member moment

Lion Ed Bogan discussed that Lion Lynda Saytanides encouraged him to join the Club some years ago when he relocated to this area. He stated that he is pleased with his decision to become part of the Club. He is now a very active member, participating in many projects including the golf tournament, meals-on-wheels and vision screening to name a few. Let us not forget that he is also our media guru as he manages the Club’s website and online presence.

  • Awards and Appreciation

Lions Lana and Ron Hahn and Hung Nguyen received First Service pins.

Lions Diana Lotz and Becky Reid received Ten Service pins.

Other awards were given to:

-Lion Barbara Scantlebury for being instrumental the execution of the project of knitting hats for Cancer patients at the Effingham hospital.

-Lion Dave Reiter received the award for Best Encourager.

The Excellence Award was presented to Lion Karen Williams

The President’s Inner Circle Award was presented to Lion Becky Reid who also received the Lion of the     Year Award.

  • Service Project Spotlight

Club Survey: Members were asked to fill out a questionnaire which was prepared by President Brandie. This questionnaire provided the opportunity for members to indicate their desires and share their opinions on various topics in an effort to aid the Club’s leadership to chart a meaningful way forward for the Club.

  • Year-end numbers

In order to comprehend the extent of the Club’s involvement in the community over the last Lion year, the following numbers were shared:

-12899 vision screenings were performed in 35 schools

-Meals-on-wheels delivered 16000 meals to program participants

-5000 pairs of Bombas socks were donated

-Loaves-and-fishes served 2400 families

Altogether, the Club  participated   in   331 activities   and logged   7633 volunteer hours.

The Service Project Brochure was distributed and discussed in an effort to enable members to be aware of the various projects in which they can participate.

  • Project Updates and Opportunities

Lions Kim and Hung Nguyen discussed the Crayon Initiative Project which they are spearheading.

The budget for Lion year 2024-2025 was distributed and discussed. After much discussion, Lion Len Cutuli moved that the budget be accepted. This was seconded by Lion Karen Williams. The motion passed unanimously.  The Charity budget was also discussed. Lion Len moved that it be accepted and Lion Windy seconded the motion. It was passed unanimously.

Lion Sandra Lewis was commended for the great job she did as the Chairperson of the Committee which hosted the International Youth Exchange visit to Savannah. Those present had the opportunity to mingle with the many students who represented countries such as Brazil, Germany, Hungary and France to name a few. Everyone enjoyed a sumptuous southern meal and the visitors were also presented with souvenirs of their visit to our area.

Lion Kevin Holness was able to secure a donation of blankets, tablecloths and gowns which the Club will donate to many organizations wherever they can be of use.

The Peace Poster Committee is in the process of organizing the project for this upcoming academic year. It is endeavoring to get more schools to participate in the project.

Lion Fred Bryan informed the Club that it will receive approximately 5000 pairs of Bombas socks for distribution to organizations in the community.

Lion Ed Bogan gave a detailed explanation of the progress and development that the Club’s website is currently undergoing.

The Club has received a new Grant of $5000.00. The Grant is earmarked to be used for the A Place To Dream, Sitting and Knitting, and Lions Closet projects.

The Club is proud to announce that three Lions Little Libraries have been built. They will soon be placed in prominent places in the community.

Tail Twister and Spotlights

  • The holder of the winning ticket of the draw for the Raffle was given the consolation prize.

  • Many members donated their “Happy$” and shared moments that were special to them.

  • Lion Brandie presented the Quote of the Month.

  • “Small acts when multiplied by millions of people can transform the world.”

 The meeting was adjourned at 8.05pm.
