Meet and Greet Minutes of the Pooler Lions Club, held on

Tuesday April 23rd, 2024, at Lovezzola’s Family Pizza Restaurant

The meeting was called to order at 6.31pm. President Brandie welcomed the gathering and offered the prayer. Future Leo/Lion 10-year-old Ellie Menees led the Pledge.

The Member Moment was presented by Lion, Mayor Karen Williams. Lion Karen is the daughter of a military Dad and she herself served in the military for 31 years with her husband whom she met when she was 15 years old. She first became involved with the Lion’s Club during the Covid period when the Club was assisting the Second Harvest organization with its food distribution program.

New Lion Ellie Morgan, whose sponsor is Lion Rosemary, was inducted by Past District Governor, Lion Len Cutuli.

Lion Len stated that the Pooler Lions Club is one of the leading Lions Clubs in Georgia. He also talked about how Lionism came about and the development of the tenets of the Club. He encouraged Lion Ellie to become as involved as possible in the various activities of the Club.

President Brandie reminded the Club that new members bring new ideas to the Club and encouraged members to invite others to join our Club. This enables the continued growth of the Club.

Service Project: Preparing Cards for Military Professionals and Veterans: This activity was led by Lion Becky Reid. Members and guests wrote up greeting cards with a ‘Patriotic’ theme. These cards will be distributed, during the Memorial holiday period, to past and current serving members of the Military to show our appreciation and thank them for their Service.

Project Updates and Opportunities

Membership Dues: Beginning in the upcoming Lion Year which begins on July1st, 2024 and runs until June 30th, 2025, the Club’s dues will be increased to $120.00 for single members and $60.00 for each additional member living in the same household (up to four additional members). Lion Alex moved that the new dues be accepted as decided. Lion Becky seconded the motion, and it was unanimously accepted by the membership.

New Lion Orientation: Lion Alex, Membership Chair, will be conducting these sessions beginning on Tuesday May 28th at 5.30pm. They will take place at Lovezzola’s. just before the start of our Meet and Greet. The sessions are open to All Lions. The sessions will provide pertinent information for new Lions and will also be a great refresher for ‘older’ Lions.

President Brandie informed the membership of the upcoming Training for New Officers which will be held online.

Lion Karen informed that the deadline for the Scholarship Applications is May 20th, 2024. Qualified applicants must be High School seniors including Homeschoolers, who live in Pooler.

The Lions ‘Little Free Library’ project is on its way to realization. Lion Kim’s husband has constructed three   little libraries for the Club and they will soon be placed in prominent locations in the community. Much appreciation to Bro. Hancock for helping with this project.

The Golf Tournament event is still in need of more golfers and volunteers. Fellow Lions, please step up to the tee!

Lion Becky announced that the Earth Day Trash Pick-up event was very successful indeed. The Lion volunteers collected 7 bags of trash as well as some bags of recyclables.

Lions Wanda and Rosemary reported that the recent Yard Sale at the Pooler YMCA was very successful. Almost $500.00 was made at that sale. The funds will be used to buy yarn for the Sitting and Knitting group, and new clothes for our Lions Closet which donates clothing to local charity organizations.

Lion Len informed that the Club will be conducting Vision Screenings at the Healthy Kids Day event, which is sponsored by the Pooler YMCA on Saturday May 4th, 2024 from 10.00am-2.00pm. Volunteers are welcome to help at this event.

Lion Becky reminded the membership of the upcoming International Youth Exchange. Students ages 13-15 will be in our area from July 15-19. Further information will be forthcoming as it becomes available.

It was reported that the Cubs for Kids program made its first delivery of stuffed lions to the Children’s Hospital. The next delivery will be for the local Fire department.

The Club’s Facebook page is up and running again. The Club is focusing on developing a strong social media presence.

The meeting was adjourned at 8.14 pm.
