New Member Inductions:

New Lions Pete Chanson and Dan Krautheimer were inducted by Past District Governor Len Cutuli, who encouraged the new members to emulate the Lion Motto, We Serve by participating in as many service projects as they are able to. He also gave a brief history of the Lions Club in an effort to enable us all to realize that we are part of a large, world-wide organization which is dedicated to serving humanity.

Guess Speaker(s)

Rachel Goode and Jennifer Taylor from Renegade Paws Rescue, an animal rescue service in Savannah were the guest speakers for the evening. The members of the Club were informed about the important service this organization is rendering to our community. There is a dire need for affordable, available vet care in our area. It costs approximately $125,000 per month to run the Rescue. With only four (4) staff members per shift it is a ‘stretch’ to look after the 47 kennels housing the many dogs and puppies that reside at the Shelter. The organization also serves the homeless community helping those men and women to care for their animals.

There are many ways in which the wider community, including the Lions Club can help this Animal Rescue. Some of the ways include the monthly donor program. The monetary contributions received help to support the medical needs of the animals in addition to providing for the daily maintenance of the Rescue. There is also the Advocate program (take out a dog to an event or to visit with you for a day or so); the mental sitter program (take out a dog for a longer period, perhaps 2 weeks or so). As a ‘cat lover’ myself, I was particularly interested in the ‘trapping cats’ program.

Orientation sessions are given twice monthly so that interested persons can receive any information they need. Persons may refer to the Rescue’s website www.renegadepawsrescue.org for further information. Lion Alex presented a $100.00 check to the Renegade Paws Rescue on behalf of our Club.

Members must now report their volunteer hours to her (Rosemary) or to the Service Chair, Lion Becky Reid and they will enter the hours in the appropriate place on the Club’s portal.

Tail Twister and Spotlights:

Lion Karen Nierle posed a Treasure Hunt of questions. Each question was worth a specific number of points. The maximum number of points that could be earned was 36. Lions Barb, Rosemary and Windy earned the highest points and so received a ‘token of love’! Members donated their Happy$ and shared moments that were special to them. Lion Alex won the raffle but since he did not pull the Joker he was given a consolation prize.

Lion Alex gaveled the meeting at 7.59pm.

Respectfully Submitted Barb Scantlebury (Club Secretary)
